The Consumer

This brief was set by an external client, which was Pearlfisher, who have done branding for companies such as green and blacks and innocent.

“We design compelling futures for iconic brands around
the world, so that as times change they stay fresh
and desirable.
We create fearless, challenger brands that change perceptions of what the future can be. In doing
so we help them become the iconic brands of tomorrow.”

Brief; Your design challenge is to research existing markets, identify a niche and then create, design/promote a challenger brand.

We were working in groups on this project, there were 5 of us in the group altogether.

We created a brand called ‘gobble’ which provided gluten free packed lunch snacks for children, as currently there are no products out there specifically targeted towards children with coeliac disease (intolerance to gluten where the bodies immune system attacks its own tissue.), and research shows that 1 in 80 children in the world may have it.

Within the brand we created the gobble monsters…

They would represent the products, which are monster bites (flapjack), gobble goo yoghurt and monster dips.

Below are our finished products…

Baring in mind we had to create a whole new brand and marketing campaign for our products in a couple of weeks, this was our T.V advert aimed at our child target market. The basic idea behind the advert is that the gobble monsters make life easier for the parent by making the packed lunch. For the kids it is just a fun advert with little monsters in, that hopefully they will remember.

I think we developed a good strong brand and it works very well having the ‘gobble monsters’ to represent it. Obviously the gluten free market is quite a niche market, but at the same time a lot of people eat wheat free just to stay healthy.

I think our weakness in the project was we tried to do to much, in terms of actually making all the packaging and a T.V advert, so not enough detail went into each area. I really like the packaging, but I think it could be developed and made better. The characters need to be more obvious as they get lost with the rest of the design, which is a shame because they look great in the photos. With the T.V advert I really like our idea behind it, but I don’t think it came across very well in the actual advert, also our skills with stop frame animation and editing are pretty limited so it wasn’t up to the highest of standards.

Overall I was pleased with this project because as a group we put a lot of time and effort into trying to make it work.
